What Is Laurel Oil (Laurel Berry Oil)?

Laurel oil — also called laurel berry oil (INCI: Laurus Nobilis Fruit Oil) — is a green, aromatic oil traditionally water-extracted from the berries of the bay laurel tree (Laurus nobilis). It is the signature ingredient that gives authentic Aleppo soap its cleansing, conditioning character, and is prized by soap makers and cosmetic formulators for its rich fatty-acid profile. It is a thick oil that naturally solidifies below 70°F (21°C) — a hallmark of a genuine fixed berry oil — and carries a terpene-rich unsaponifiable fraction valued in traditional formulations.

Our laurel oil is single-origin from Hatay, Turkey, traditionally extracted, and stocked in Norcross, Georgia — so US soap makers and formulators receive it in 2–5 days with no customs. Available in retail sizes and bulk & wholesale for soap makers, with COA, SDS and SAP value available on request.

INCI: Laurus Nobilis Fruit Oil · CAS 8007-48-5 · EINECS 283-272-5 · Country of origin: Turkey (Hatay). A lot-specific COA and SDS are available on request.

How to Verify Authentic Turkish Laurel Berry Oil

You can’t smell or feel an oil through a screen — so authenticity has to be verified on paper, before it ships. Many oils sold online as “Turkish” are blended or re-labeled from mixed origins. Here is exactly what to check, and what our documents show:

  • 1.Lauric acid on the GC report. Genuine laurel berry (fruit) oil carries a distinctive lauric-acid signature. Our lot KA183 tests at 14.21% lauric acid (reference min 12.5%). A GC report missing this signature is not true Laurus nobilis fruit oil.
  • 2.A named, independent lab. Our analysis is run by the Turkish Ministry of Economy — Mersin Laboratory Office, not an unnamed “in-house” sheet.
  • 3.A batch number and dates that trace to your bottle. Each lot carries a batch number (e.g. KA183) with production and best-by dates, so the COA you receive matches the exact oil shipped.
  • 4.A single, named origin. Ours is single-origin from Hatay, Turkey, then stocked in Georgia — not a warehouse blend of mixed-origin oils. A Certificate of Origin is available on request.
  • 5.The correct identifiers. INCI Laurus Nobilis Fruit Oil, CAS 8007-48-5, EINECS 283-272-5 — and clearly not laurel leaf essential oil, which is a different product.

Want to check before you commit? Request the current COA, SDS and Certificate of Origin and compare the numbers above against the oil you receive.

Why Soap Makers Use Laurel Berry Oil

Verified Lauric-Acid Signature

Supports the firm, cleansing bar that defines authentic Aleppo-style soap, together with the full fatty-acid profile and SAP values. Lot KA183 shows lauric acid at 14.21% on the current COA. Most soap makers target 15–55% LBO in their formula — always confirm the current batch COA before production.

Traditional Water-Extraction

Hot-water extracted from Hatay laurel berries — the traditional method used in Aleppo-style soap production for centuries. Gives correct SAP value and reliable saponification behaviour.

COA & SDS Available

Full documentation for ingredient labelling, retail compliance and Etsy/Amazon listings. NaOH SAP value confirmed on COA.

US Stock — Ships from Georgia

No customs delays or minimum pallet requirements. 1L, gallon and 5-gallon sizes ready for small-batch and growing soap brands.

It is traditionally used in skin, hair, and body care formulations.

  • Cleansing formulations — used in soap and facial-cleansing formulas alongside the full fatty-acid profile
  • Dry & sensitive skin care — oleic acid conditioning, traditionally used in dry and sensitive skin care formulations
  • General conditioning — nourishing care for dry-looking skin and rough skin

  • Massage oil blends — traditional cosmetic ingredient in massage and body-care formulations
  • Body-care formulas — used in topical body-care and balm formulations
  • Aromatic profile — characteristic aroma from the terpene fraction
